President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed Mr Abel Olumuyiwa Enitan as the new Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, effective August 27, 2026.
Enitan succeeds Mrs Didi Esther Walson-Jack, who is due to retire from the Federal Civil Service after attaining the statutory retirement age of 60.
A native of Osun State, Enitan is currently the most senior Permanent Secretary in the Federal Civil Service. He has served as a Permanent Secretary for seven years and seven months across the Ministry of Police Affairs, Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and the Office of the Vice President.
He is currently the Permanent Secretary in the Federal Ministry of Education.
With extensive experience across key government institutions, Enitan is expected to bring considerable institutional knowledge and a deep understanding of the workings of the Federal Civil Service to his new assignment.
In announcing the appointment, President Tinubu expressed appreciation to Walson-Jack for her distinguished service to the nation and her contributions to reforms, innovations and improved performance within the Civil Service during her tenure.
The President wished her a fulfilling and successful post-retirement life, while conveying the nation’s gratitude for her years of dedicated public service.
Tinubu charged Enitan to consolidate ongoing reforms and innovations in the Civil Service, deepen professionalism and efficiency, and build a more effective and responsive public service capable of advancing the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
The President also tasked the incoming Head of Service with strengthening a Civil Service anchored on professionalism, merit, accountability, innovation and responsiveness to the needs and aspirations of Nigerians.
Enitan was born on December 12, 1966. He attended Ajibode Grammar School, Ibadan, and the College of Arts and Science, Ile-Ife, before proceeding to the University of Lagos, where he obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Finance and Banking in 1988.
He later obtained a Master of Science degree in Public Policy Analysis from Nasarawa State University, Keffi, in 2015.
The appointment takes effect on August 27, 2026, as the Federal Government prepares for a transition in the leadership of the country’s civil service.
