Ahead of the November 16 Ondo gubernatorial election, Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Kayode Egbetokun has deployed Deputy Inspector-General (DIG) Sylvester Abiodun Alabi as the DIG Elections to lead security efforts.
In a statement, Force Public Relations Officer, Force Headquarters, Abuja ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi said DIG Alabi will oversee police operations to ensure a peaceful and credible election. Supporting him are AIG Bennett Igweh and CP Tunji Disu, assigned as AIG and CP Elections, respectively.
The IGP has ordered a restriction of all vehicular movement across roads, waterways, and other transit routes from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Election Day. Exceptions are limited to essential services, such as medical, fire services, and accredited media. Additionally, security aides are prohibited from escorting VIPs to polling stations and collation centers, and unauthorized security personnel are banned from election areas to maintain order.
Special accommodations will be provided for individuals with disabilities, pregnant women, nursing mothers, and others with mobility challenges, ensuring accessible polling locations. Dedicated hotlines for reporting suspicious activities will be available to assist in maintaining the election’s integrity.
The Nigeria Police Force, in collaboration with military and federal security agencies, encourages citizens to report any actions that could disrupt the democratic process, reiterating its commitment to a secure and transparent election in Ondo State.
