Operation DELTA SANITY shuts down illegal refining sites in Bayelsa

In a decisive move against oil theft and illegal refining activities, Forward Operating Base (FOB) FORMOSO executed Operation DELTA SANITY on Tuesday, resulting in the successful deactivation of three illicit refining sites in Ogolomabiri, Nembe Local Government Area (LGA).

During the operation, FOB FORMOSO personnel discovered and dismantled four refining ovens, effectively crippling the illegal operations. The team also seized a wooden boat and a fiber boat, both laden with large quantities of stolen crude oil and illegally refined Automotive Gas Oil (AGO).

The discovery underscores the persistent challenge of illegal oil refining in the region, which poses significant environmental risks and economic losses. The prompt and effective action by FOB FORMOSO highlights the ongoing efforts by security forces to combat these illegal activities and safeguard national resources.

Authorities have reiterated their commitment to intensifying surveillance and operational activities to deter such criminal activities. The deactivation of these sites is expected to disrupt the operations of the perpetrators and send a strong message about the government’s resolve to uphold the rule of law and protect the country’s oil infrastructure.

Local residents and stakeholders have expressed their support for the continued efforts to curb illegal refining and oil theft, emphasizing the need for sustained security operations to ensure long-term stability and environmental protection in the region.
