Major General Gold Chibuisi, the Theatre Commander of Joint Task Force North East Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK), delivered a message to the Members of the General Court Martial, urging them to uphold a high level of professionalism in their execution of justice. He emphasized the importance of avoiding any actions that could undermine the transparent and impartial nature of the court proceedings.
Represented by Deputy Theatre Commander, Major General OM Bello, the Theatre Commander conveyed this charge during the formal commencement of the Theatre Command General Court Martial. The purpose of this court is to address allegations of professional misconduct involving troops within the OPHK.
In his address while inaugurating the Court, the Theatre Commander directed the court members to prioritize justice and ensure a fair trial process. He also emphasized the significance of expediting the dispensation of justice in accordance with internationally recognized best practices. The Theatre Commander stressed that the delay in delivering justice could equate to a denial of justice itself.
The inauguration event was conducted smoothly, with the presence of key individuals such as Brigadier General HA Gambo, who serves as the Court President, as well as the Judge Advocate, Members of the Court, Commanders, and Principal Staff Officers of OPHK. The event was attended by both the Prosecuting and Defense Council, the accused personnel, and the officers and enlisted personnel of OPHK.
