PDP BoT dismisses forgery allegation by Senator Anyanwu as baseless

  • Says documents were jointly signed and witnessed by party leaders

The Board of Trustees (BoT) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has dismissed as false and misleading the allegation of signature forgery made by the party’s National Secretary, Senator Samuel Anyanwu, regarding official correspondence to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on the forthcoming 2025 Elective National Convention.

In a statement issued on Thursday by the BoT Chairman, Senator Adolphus Wabara (Ph.D.), the board described Anyanwu’s claim as “baseless, misleading, and reprehensible,” stressing that it is inconsistent with the party’s documented records and procedures.

According to the BoT, the letter in question was jointly signed by the National Chairman, Ambassador Umar Iliya Damagum, and Senator Anyanwu on August 25, 2025, during the 102nd meeting of the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the PDP.

The signing, the statement said, took place in the presence of critical party organs and stakeholders, including members of the PDP Governors’ Forum, the Board of Trustees, and other NEC members who witnessed the process.

The BoT further explained that Senator Anyanwu was subsequently inaugurated as Secretary of the Contact and Mobilization Sub-Committee for the 2025 National Convention. In that role, he co-signed several official communications, including letters of appointment issued to committee members alongside the sub-committee chairman, Governor Douye Diri of Bayelsa State.

The statement also revealed that Anyanwu personally signed and transmitted a letter requesting financial approval for the sub-committee’s inaugural meeting — correspondences that are verifiable and remain in the custody of the party and convention committees.

“In view of these incontrovertible facts, the BoT finds Senator Anyanwu’s claim of forgery to be not only baseless but also a deliberate attempt to cast aspersions on the integrity of the party’s leadership and to misinform security agencies and the public,” the statement read.

Reaffirming the PDP’s unity and commitment to internal democracy, the BoT assured members that preparations for the 2025 Elective National Convention, scheduled for November 15–16, 2025, in Ibadan, Oyo State, are on course.

“The forthcoming convention will be a credible and unifying exercise reflective of the PDP’s long-standing tradition of transparency and democratic excellence,” Wabara stated.

The BoT therefore urged party members, stakeholders, and supporters to disregard Senator Anyanwu’s claims and remain steadfast in their support for the PDP leadership as it continues to “chart a course for Nigeria’s democratic renewal.”
