The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has firmly refused to accept the judgment rendered by the Presidential Election Petition Court (PEPC) concerning the petition submitted by the PDP and its candidate, Atiku Abubakar. This petition had contested the declaration by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu as the victors in the Presidential election held on February 25, 2023.
The National Publicity Secretary of the party, Hon. Debo Ologunagba, representing our party, the PDP, provided an initial assessment of the PEPC’s judgment, and we wish to express our firm and unreserved rejection of the judgment in its entirety.
Ologunagba emphasized that the judgment lacks a rational basis and is inconsistent with the facts and evidence presented in court. It also appears to contravene the relevant Electoral Laws, Guidelines, Regulations, and the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (as amended). Furthermore, he noted that the judgment seems to dwell excessively on technicalities while falling short of delivering substantial justice in this matter.
Ologunagba added that the PDP, as a law-abiding political party, will engage our legal team to conduct a comprehensive review of the judgment and determine the appropriate course of action within the confines of the law.
He urges all Nigerians to remain vigilant, composed, and unified as our party continues to spearhead the effort to safeguard democracy and ensure that the will of the people, as expressed in the February 25, 2023 Presidential election, is duly acknowledged and reinstated.
