The Anambra State Police Command has arrested a masquerade accused of carrying out unprovoked and violent attacks on residents, an incident that caused widespread fear and disrupted public peace in Awgbu, Orumba North Local Government Area.
Confirming the arrest, the State Command’s Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, condemned the actions, describing the behaviour of the masquerade—captured in a viral video currently circulating on social media—as “totally unacceptable, unlawful, and intolerable under any guise.”
SP Ikenga stated that the suspect is currently in police custody, and law enforcement officers are conducting a thorough investigation to ensure that all individuals involved in the attacks are identified and brought to justice. He emphasised that the Command remains committed to maintaining law and order and protecting citizens from acts of violence.
“The Anambra State Police Command urges members of the public to remain calm and assured that no act of violence will go unchecked,” Ikenga said. He added that further updates will be provided as the investigation progresses.
The incident has sparked widespread concern among residents of Awgbu and neighbouring communities, highlighting the need for vigilance and swift action against any disruption of peace.
