The Ondo State Police Command has arrested a man suspected of multiple sexual assaults and armed robberies in Akure, reinforcing efforts to protect public safety and combat violent crimes.
In a statement, the Police Public Relations Officer Ondo State Command, DSP Abayomi Jimoh said the suspect, identified as Olamipekun Elegbeleye, allegedly lured a female victim onto his motorcycle on November 21, 2025, under the pretext of taking her to Afunbiowo Housing Estate, Oke Aro. He reportedly diverted into a nearby bush, sexually assaulted her at gunpoint, and stole her valuables. Investigations revealed that Elegbeleye allegedly committed similar offences against four other women in the same area.
Acting on credible intelligence and technical tracking, police operatives apprehended the suspect at his hideout. Recovered items included two SIM cards, two iPhones, a shirt, and Opay and Moniepoint ATM cards, believed to belong to his victims. Investigators also discovered that the suspect had unlawfully transferred funds from one victim’s bank account.
Elegbeleye has confessed to the crimes, been charged to court, and remanded at the Ondo State Correctional Centre, Akure.
The Command, led by Commissioner of Police CP Adebowale Lawal, thanked the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, PhD, NPM, for his leadership and support in strengthening intelligence-driven policing. CP Lawal reiterated the Command’s commitment to ensuring the safety of lives and property in Ondo State and vowed that perpetrators of violent and sexual crimes would be relentlessly pursued and brought to justice.
