Police crack down on extortion after viral Benin bypass video

Following the circulation of a viral video capturing police officers engaging in acts of extortion along the Benin bypass, the Nigeria Police Force has taken swift disciplinary action in line with its zero-tolerance policy on misconduct.

Six officers, including a Chief Superintendent of Police who served as their supervisor, were summoned to the Force Headquarters in Abuja, where they appeared before the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D., NPM. The IGP described their actions as shameful, distasteful, and completely unacceptable.

In response, the officers have been formally queried, and orderly room trials have begun for the Inspectors implicated in the video. The Police Force emphasized its unwavering commitment to professionalism, integrity, and accountability.

The public is assured that such behavior will not be condoned, and all involved will face appropriate disciplinary measures in accordance with established protocols.
