- Says public complaints chairman was invited, not arrested
The Nigeria Police Force has refuted claims by Mr. Muhuyi Magaji Rimin Gado, Chairman of the Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission, regarding his alleged arrest.
According to the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, Mr. Magaji was invited, not arrested, in connection with a petition received against him.
The petition, addressed to the Inspector-General of Police Monitoring Unit, was received on Friday, January 17, 2025. In line with standard investigative procedures, Mr. Magaji was invited to engage with officials as part of the investigation. The police emphasized that as a public servant, Mr. Magaji is expected to cooperate fully to ensure the matter is resolved transparently, without resorting to creating undue media attention.
The Force described claims of his arrest as “unfounded and misleading,” urging the media and public to avoid spreading misinformation that could cause unnecessary alarm. The Nigeria Police reiterated its commitment to upholding the rule of law and ensuring due process in all its investigations.
