The Gombe State Police Command has dismissed as false a circulating report claiming that ECWA Church in Kashere, Akko Local Government Area, was attacked.
In a statement issued on Sunday, through the State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Buhari Abdullahi, the Command said preliminary checks were immediately conducted through the Divisional Police Officer in Pindiga and the Officer in Charge of the Kashere Police Outstation.
He said both officers contacted a church elder who was present during the second segment of the Hausa service. The elder confirmed that no attack took place and noted that police personnel were on the premises throughout the day as part of routine security deployment.
The Command described the spread of the false report as irresponsible and warned that it could cause unnecessary panic among residents. It added that efforts are underway to identify the source of the misinformation for possible sanction.
The police urged the public to remain calm and continue to observe the law, assuring that the Command remains committed to safeguarding lives and property across Gombe State.
