The Anambra State Police Command has confirmed that the police officer allegedly linked to the death of a three-month-old baby in Okija has been identified and taken into custody.
In a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the Command disclosed that a full-scale investigation had commenced to determine the circumstances surrounding the tragic incident and ensure that justice is served.
The Commissioner of Police in the state, CP Ikioye Orutugu, expressed deep regret over the incident and extended condolences to the family of the deceased child.
He assured the public that the Command would handle the matter with transparency and professionalism in line with the disciplinary procedures of the Nigeria Police Force.
According to the statement, the officer involved is currently undergoing interrogation and other administrative processes as investigations continue.
The Police Command also appealed to residents to remain calm and refrain from actions capable of escalating tension, assuring that anyone found culpable would not be protected from facing justice.
The Command added that further updates on the outcome of the investigation would be communicated to the public in due course.
