Police dismantle criminal syndicates, recover firearms, rescue kidnap victims

The Nigeria Police Force has achieved significant breakthroughs in its intensified fight against crime, dismantling several criminal syndicates, recovering 134 firearms, 1,012 rounds of ammunition of various calibers, and rescuing 302 kidnapped victims across the country.

During a press briefing at the FID-IRT Headquarters on January 22, 2024, Force Public Relations Officer Force Headquarters, Abuja ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi highlighted key successes, including the arrest of 179 armed robbery suspects, 100 kidnapping suspects, 152 murder suspects, 77 rape suspects, 110 suspected cultists, and 34 individuals connected to the unlawful possession of prohibited firearms. In addition, 56 stolen vehicles were recovered, along with 73 firearms and 310 rounds of ammunition.

One notable operation involved the arrest of Muhammad Kabir, 36, and members of his gang, including Donald Okpere and Haruna Ibrahim, who posed as military personnel to defraud victims of millions of naira using fake alerts for purchased gadgets and medical equipment.

In another operation, police apprehended Sunday Okwo Ade, Monday Solomon, David Emmanuel, and Shakiru Badmus, a notorious gang specializing in stealing motorcycles from farmers in Lagos and Ogun States. Fifteen stolen motorcycles were recovered during the operation.

Inspector-General of Police, Dr. Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, reaffirmed the Force’s dedication to its core mission of safeguarding lives and property. He emphasized the commitment to creating a safe environment for Nigerians to carry out their daily activities without fear.

The IGP assured the public that the Force will remain relentless in pursuing criminal elements, ensuring justice is served in accordance with the country’s laws.
