The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has handed over arrested drug suspects and recovered illicit drugs and substances to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for further investigation and prosecution.

The handover was carried out on Friday, August 21, 2026, by the FCT Commissioner of Police, CP Ahmed Muhammed Sanusi, PhD, FCAI, as part of ongoing inter-agency collaboration to combat drug-related crimes and other criminal activities in the Federal Capital Territory.

Speaking during the exercise, Sanusi said the Police Command was empowered to investigate and prosecute drug-related offences but considered sustained cooperation with sister security and law enforcement agencies essential to effectively tackling criminal activities.

He particularly highlighted the NDLEA, whose statutory mandate covers the investigation and prosecution of drug-related offences.

Receiving the suspects and recovered substances on behalf of the NDLEA FCT Strategic Command, the agency’s Public Relations Officer, ACN Samuel Orji, commended the Police Commissioner for strengthening inter-agency cooperation.

Orji assured that the suspects would undergo due investigation and, where appropriate, be prosecuted in accordance with extant laws.

The FCT Police Command reiterated its commitment to deepening collaboration with security agencies and other relevant stakeholders to enhance security and protect residents across the capital territory.

The Command also urged members of the public to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious persons and activities to the nearest police station or through its emergency lines: 0803 200 3913 and 0806 158 1938.
