Police, Military rescue kidnapped Naval officer, two civilians; arrest four suspects in Abuja

The FCT Police Command, in collaboration with the military, has rescued a kidnapped naval officer and two civilians abducted by armed criminals in Mpape, Abuja, on March 21, 2025. Four suspects were arrested during the operation.

In a statement, Police Public Relations Officer, FCT Police Command, Abuja, SP Josephine Adeh said the incident occurred at around 7:35 PM when heavily armed assailants attacked the Maman Vatsa Estate gate, blocked Mpape Road, and opened fire on vehicles before seizing the three victims. The kidnappers later demanded ₦500 million for the naval officer and ₦200 million each for the two civilians.

Following a distress report, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Operations), DCP Isyaku Sharu, led a joint operation involving the Police Anti-Kidnapping Unit, the Nigerian military, DSS, and local hunters. The search covered Mpape, Gidan Bawa, Anguwan Mu’azu, and Yelwa Hills in both the FCT and Nasarawa State.

Acting on intelligence, operatives traced the suspects to a Fulani resettlement in Anguwan Mu’azu and Yelwa Hills between 2:00 AM and 5:30 AM on March 23, 2025. Four suspects were apprehended, and the victims were rescued unharmed. Authorities also recovered ₦3.2 million, suspected to be ransom proceeds from previous kidnappings.

The victims are in stable condition and receiving care at the Nigerian Army Clinic. Security has been reinforced in Mpape and surrounding areas to prevent further incidents.
