The Ogun State Police Command has invited Oba Semiu Ogunjobi, the Olorile of Orile-Ifo, for questioning regarding his alleged public assault and dehumanization of 73-year-old Chief Abraham Areola. The police clarified that no individual has authority over the force and assured that justice would be pursued in the case.
In related developments, the Ogun State government has suspended Oba Ogunjobi for six months. The suspension follows an investigation into the incident, during which both the monarch and Areola were interrogated by the State Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs.
A statement from the Governor’s Special Adviser on Communication and Strategy, Kayode Akinmade, emphasized that the suspension was a result of the monarch’s public misconduct, which had drawn widespread attention on social media. The suspension includes stripping Oba Ogunjobi of the paraphernalia of his stool until the matter is resolved.
The decision was made in consultation with the Egba Traditional Council and is in accordance with Ogun State’s Obas and Chiefs’ Law of 2021.
