The workshop, themed “Proactive Detection of Non/False Currency Declaration and Application of Appropriate Sanctions,” was held on January 28–29, 2025, at the EFCC Academy in Karu, Abuja. EFCC Chairman Ola Olukoyede, represented by the Academy’s Commandant, Deputy Commander Chinwe Ndubeze, emphasized that the initiative is a crucial step toward Nigeria’s removal from the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) grey list.
Participants, drawn from key agencies including the EFCC, NCS, National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), NFIU, Department of State Security (DSS), and Nigeria Immigration Service, were trained to enhance border security, detect illicit financial flows, and combat money laundering and terrorist financing.
The Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, represented by Comptroller S.M. Yahaya, highlighted the longstanding collaboration between the NCS and other agencies in tackling financial crimes. He reaffirmed the commitment to fostering inter-agency synergy for a safer and more secure economy.
The workshop equipped officers with skills to identify, apprehend, and prosecute offenders, reinforcing Nigeria’s efforts to comply with FATF recommendations and exit the grey list by May 2025.
