The Nigeria Police Force has recovered several vehicles stolen from Nigeria and smuggled across borders into Ghana and Niger Republic, as part of intensified efforts to combat transnational crimes through INTERPOL collaboration.
According to a statement by Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, operatives of INTERPOL National Central Bureau (NCB) Abuja, in collaboration with their counterparts in INTERPOL NCB Accra, recovered a Toyota Prado (2020 model) in Accra, Ghana. The vehicle, belonging to a Nigerian Federal Government agency, was stolen during a robbery in Abuja. Three suspects were arrested in connection with the case and charged to court in Ghana. The vehicle has since been returned and handed over to the agency.
In a similar operation, INTERPOL NCB Abuja recovered a 2018 Toyota Hilux stolen from a staff member of another government agency in Utako District, Abuja. With support from INTERPOL NCB Niamey, the vehicle was traced to Agadez, Niger Republic, and formally returned at the Nigeria-Niger border (Ilela/Konni).
Additionally, the Police are in the process of finalizing the recovery of two more stolen vehicles—a Toyota Land Cruiser SUV and a Toyota Land Cruiser Prado—taken from Abuja in May 2025 and reportedly sold in Niamey, Niger Republic.
The Force urged citizens to register their vehicles on the Police electronic platform and take preventive measures to aid in prompt recovery in case of theft.
Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, commended the professionalism of the operatives and reaffirmed the Force’s commitment to strengthening global policing cooperation. He also extended appreciation to INTERPOL NCB Accra, INTERPOL NCB Niamey, and the Nigerian High Commission in Accra for their support in the recovery operations.
