The Kano State Police Command has announced the suspension of the annual Tashe traditional performance during the Ramadan period, citing security concerns.
In a public statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, the Command said the decision was taken in consultation with the Kano State Government to prevent criminal elements from exploiting the event to perpetrate offences, including thuggery, mobile phone snatching, and drug abuse.
The Police noted that while security measures have been strengthened to ensure a peaceful Ramadan, intelligence assessments indicated the need to temporarily halt the festivities in the interest of public safety.
The Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, urged parents and guardians to caution their children and wards against engaging in activities capable of breaching law and order. He warned that violators would face the full weight of the law.
The Command extended Ramadan greetings to residents of Kano State and assured the public of its commitment to maintaining peace and security throughout the fasting period.
For emergencies, residents were advised to contact the Command through its designated phone lines or via the “NPF Rescue Me” application available on mobile platforms.
