Prepare for rainy days, invest in UK properties, property consultant advises Nigerians

Nigerians are being encouraged to consider investing in properties in the United Kingdom as a prudent strategy for financial security.

Yemi Edun, Director of the UK-based property consultancy firm Daniel Ford International, highlighted the benefits of owning property in the UK during the UK Property Roadshow held in Abuja. Edun described UK property investment as a sound decision and an ideal pension plan capable of countering inflation.

Edun emphasized the stability and potential returns of UK property investments. “We won’t get involved in anything that will be untoward property-wise. This is encouraging Nigerians to buy homes in the UK as an investment option, a second home, and a hedge against the devaluation of their currency,” he stated.

Edun also noted the diverse profiles of Nigerian investors, including individuals with inheritance money, divorce settlements, technology professionals, farmers, and bankers. “They buy for a certain amount, and in another 10 years, that property has doubled or tripled in value. It’s a good pension plan so that when you retire, you have income that can match inflation,” he added.

Regarding the appeal of London, Edun explained, “London is special. The long-standing connection means Nigerians don’t experience a cultural shock there. Most Nigerians can blend in seamlessly. English language, schools, medical facilities, lifestyle, football, and the short six-hour flight are all significant advantages.”

The roadshow, Edun said, removes barriers for prospective buyers by facilitating direct meetings with developers like Berkeley Group. “We’ve curated a selection of properties, negotiated good deals that buyers wouldn’t be able to get on their own,” he noted.

Berkeley Group, one of the leading property firms in the UK, is listed on the London Stock Exchange and offers a range of investment opportunities tailored for Nigerian investors.
