President Bola Tinubu emphasized the need for Nigerians to adopt a new value system to ensure national progress, condemning the vandalism of rail tracks and theft of electric cables as acts of sabotage.
In a statement Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity Chief Ajuri Ngelale said the President’s remarks came during a visit from National Assembly leaders on Monday evening in Lagos, as part of Eid-el-Kabir celebrations.
The delegation, led by Senate President Godswill Akpabio, included Deputy Senate President Senator Jibrin Barau and Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives Honourable Benjamin Kalu, among others.
“Good economics in harsh times is a challenge we must face. No matter how difficult it is, I will not turn my back on Nigeria,” President Tinubu stated. He urged citizens to shift from a rent-seeking mindset to becoming more productive, and to combat economic sabotage such as smuggling and infrastructure theft.
The President praised the National Assembly’s support, which has facilitated key developments, and highlighted the importance of inclusive governance to meet the needs of the people. “We must face our challenges and eliminate banditry and terrorism to enable agricultural productivity and ensure food distribution,” Tinubu added.
Following the meeting, Senate President Akpabio expressed appreciation for President Tinubu’s leadership and assured that the National Assembly would work on improving legislation to enhance the ease of doing business in Nigeria.
After his interaction with the National Assembly leaders, President Tinubu met with the Oba of Lagos, His Royal Majesty, Oba Rilwan Akiolu.
