Saudi Arabia hosts global alliance to advance Israel-Palestine peace talks

Saudi Arabia has hosted the inaugural Global Alliance Meeting aimed at advancing a two-state solution to address the longstanding Israel-Palestine conflict.

The meeting, led by Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan, took place Wednesday and marked Saudi Arabia’s active role in promoting stability and peace in the Middle East, according to a statement from the Saudi embassy in Nigeria.

Launched last month in partnership with international allies, the Global Alliance seeks to mobilize global support for a sustainable two-state resolution. Prince Faisal welcomed Philippe Lazzarini, UNRWA Commissioner-General, and various peace-focused international delegations to discuss concrete steps toward resolving the conflict.

In his opening remarks, Prince Faisal condemned escalating violence in Palestine and Lebanon, calling for a ceasefire, the release of hostages, and the establishment of accountability mechanisms to address recent violations. He underscored Saudi Arabia’s commitment to a peaceful two-state solution, advocating for the creation of an independent Palestinian state and an end to the occupation.

The Saudi statement also highlighted regional concerns, particularly over the impact of continued Israeli actions on Lebanon’s sovereignty. Saudi leaders, under King Salman bin Abdulaziz and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, emphasized their commitment to peace efforts in line with the joint Arab-Islamic summit held last November.

Saudi Arabia announced its plans to hold a follow-up summit on November 11, 2024, in Riyadh to address ongoing regional developments and support peace efforts across the Middle East.
