The Embassy of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has distributed 100 tonnes of dates to Nigeria as part of its annual humanitarian assistance program.
In a statement, the embassy highlighted that the initiative, facilitated by the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre (KSrelief), is aimed at supporting vulnerable families across the country while strengthening the longstanding diplomatic and cultural ties between Saudi Arabia and Nigeria.
During the official handover ceremony, the Ambassador of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques to Nigeria, His Excellency Faisal bin Ibrahim Al-Ghamdi, reiterated the Kingdom’s unwavering commitment to humanitarian efforts. He expressed deep gratitude to the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud for their steadfast dedication to providing aid to underserved communities worldwide.
Ambassador Al-Ghamdi emphasized that Saudi Arabia remains committed to fostering Islamic solidarity and alleviating hardship among vulnerable populations. He noted that this year’s consignment includes 50 tonnes of dates for Abuja and another 50 tonnes for Kano, continuing Saudi Arabia’s tradition of supporting Nigeria through humanitarian initiatives.
The embassy stated that, in collaboration with local authorities and humanitarian organizations, the distribution process will be carefully managed to ensure that the aid reaches those most in need across various regions of Nigeria.
Reaffirming the Kingdom’s commitment to strengthening bilateral cooperation, particularly in humanitarian and Islamic affairs, Ambassador Al-Ghamdi underscored Saudi Arabia’s broader mission of promoting food security, social welfare, and unity—particularly during significant religious periods such as Ramadan.
Saudi Arabia has been a longstanding partner in global humanitarian relief efforts, including in Nigeria. Through its Vision 2030 agenda, the Kingdom aims to expand its contributions to international humanitarian causes, reinforcing its role in fostering peace, stability, and prosperity worldwide. The ongoing provision of aid to Nigeria is a testament to these commitments and reflects the enduring partnership between the two nations.
