Senator Natasha granted ₦50m bail over alleged false claims against Senate President

Abuja, June 19, 2025 – Justice Chizoba Orji of the FCT High Court has granted bail to Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan in the sum of ₦50 million, following her arraignment on a three-count charge of alleged false imputation against the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio.

As part of the bail conditions, the senator is required to produce one surety who must be a reputable indigene of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and must own landed property within the court’s jurisdiction.

Security was tightened around the court premises in Maitama as the Senator representing Kogi Central appeared alongside her husband for the proceedings. The charges, brought by the Federal Government, allege that Akpoti-Uduaghan made false assassination claims aimed at harming the reputation and office of the Senate President.

The case has been adjourned to September 23, 2025.
