On Sunday, August 13, 2023, the Lagos Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) successfully coordinated the extradition of Samuel Ogoshi and his sibling, Samson, to the United States of America. This extradition was arranged to address the allegations of sexually exploiting numerous young men and teenage boys across the U.S., particularly in the Western District of Michigan.
The initial steps for extradition were initiated by the Commission in May 2023. This process took place within the Federal High Court, Abuja Judicial Division. The aim was to bring the Ogoshi brothers and Ezekiel Ejemeh Robert to face legal action in response to their involvement in exploiting minors and producing pornography. This course of action was undertaken following a formal request from the U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).
The three individuals – the Ogoshi brothers and Ezekiel – were indicted in a United States Federal Court on December 1, 2022. The charges against them included the exploitation of minors resulting in fatal consequences, along with conspiring to exploit minors by coercing them into generating child pornography. This generated content was then misused for blackmail purposes. The accused were also charged with conspiracy to distribute child pornography, encompassing the dissemination of explicit images to minors, their families, and acquaintances. Additionally, they faced charges related to conspiring to engage in online stalking.
The offenses that were committed carry significant penalties, with imprisonment terms ranging from a minimum of five years to a maximum of 20 years. One specific charge pertained to Samuel, who was accused of causing the death of Jordan DeMay, a 17-year-old resident of Marquette, Michigan. Jordan’s tragic demise occurred through a self-inflicted gunshot wound in March 2022.
The investigation revealed that the suspects masterminded a scheme involving the sexual extortion of minors and adults within the United States. Their modus operandi involved hacking into social media accounts and adopting personas of young, appealing women to lure unsuspecting victims into sharing explicit photographs. Subsequently, these images were used as leverage to extort substantial monetary payments from the victims.
The arrests of the Ogoshi brothers transpired in February 2023 in the vicinity of the Ojo area in Lagos. Simultaneously, Ezekiel was apprehended in Nasarawa by EFCC operatives. However, the extradition process for the third defendant, Robert, is currently pending and awaiting further legal actions.
