Southwest political leaders hail Alia’s performance, console Yelwata community over killings

Political leaders from the Southwest region have commended the Benue State Governor, Rev. Fr. Dr. Hyacinth Alia, for what they described as his outstanding performance in governance and crisis management.

The delegation, under the aegis of the Governor’s Advisory Council (GAC) of Lagos State, led by its Chairman, Prince Dr. Tajudeen Oluyole Olusi, paid a condolence visit to the Yelwata community in Guma Local Government Area, where over 200 people were reportedly killed by suspected herdsmen. Many others were said to have sustained injuries and been displaced.

During the visit, the delegation expressed satisfaction with the swift response of the Benue State Government in providing medical and political support to victims of the attack. The leaders also visited survivors receiving treatment at the Reverend Father Moses Orshio Adasu University Teaching Hospital, Makurdi, offering prayers and words of encouragement.

Olusi conveyed the Council’s sympathy to the victims and their families, assuring them of solidarity and support from the Lagos APC leadership. He also commended Governor Alia for his proactive measures in addressing security challenges and aligning his administration with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda. “We are here in solidarity with the APC administration of your hardworking Governor, His Excellency Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia, to console you and assure you that we feel your pain,” Olusi said. “We also appeal to you to keep faith with President Tinubu’s administration, which is committed to restoring peace and security across the country.”

Olusi recalled that President Tinubu had earlier visited Benue State following the Yelwata tragedy, directing security agencies to track down and bring the perpetrators to justice. He also noted that Senator Oluremi Tinubu had visited the community to provide relief materials and emotional support.

The delegation further toured key infrastructural projects in Makurdi, including the High-Level Roundabout Underpass, commending Governor Alia for his developmental strides within a short time in office.

In a closing remark, Olusi described Alia’s performance as “exceptional,” noting that the governor had surpassed expectations within two years and urging Benue residents to continue supporting his administration for greater progress.
