FG debunks fake news, affirms JAMB as sole authority for tertiary institutions admissions

The Federal Ministry of Education has dismissed as false a viral report claiming that the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) is no longer required for admission into Nigeria’s tertiary institutions.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, the Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa (CON), described the publication as “baseless and misleading,” emphasizing that no such directive originated from the Ministry.

“For the avoidance of doubt, JAMB remains the statutory and legally empowered body responsible for conducting entrance examinations and coordinating admissions into all tertiary institutions in Nigeria,” the statement read.

Dr. Alausa reaffirmed that the existing admission processes through JAMB remain fully operational, urging prospective students, parents, and institutions to disregard any contrary information and rely only on official communication channels of the Ministry and JAMB.

He reiterated the Federal Government’s commitment to maintaining transparency, fairness, and credibility in the tertiary admission process, stressing that merit and due process remain the guiding principles for entry into higher institutions.

The Minister also cautioned media outlets, bloggers, and online platforms against publishing unverified reports that could mislead the public or create confusion within the education sector.

“The Federal Ministry of Education completely dissociates itself from the false publication. We urge the public to always confirm information from official sources before sharing,” he stated.

The Ministry reiterated that there has been no change in JAMB’s role, which remains central and indispensable to Nigeria’s tertiary education framework.

Members of the public were advised to visit the official websites and verified social media pages of the Federal Ministry of Education and JAMB for accurate updates on admission and education-related matters.
