Speaker Abbas mourns Herbert Wigwe, and Others

The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Abbas Tajudeen, Ph.D., has conveyed his profound sorrow and shock at the untimely passing of Dr. Herbert Wigwe, CON, the Group Chief Executive Officer of Access Holdings Plc, along with his wife, Doreen, son Chizi, and Mr. Abimbola Ogunbanjo, MFR, a former Group Chairman of the Nigerian Exchange Group Plc, in a helicopter crash in the United States.

According to an official statement received by the Speaker from the Group Company Secretary, Sunday Ekwochi, this tragic incident has deeply affected Nigeria as a nation.

Dr. Wigwe, renowned for his leadership at Access Bank Plc where he transformed the institution into a household name in Nigeria and expanded its reach across Africa and beyond, was further recognized for his exceptional entrepreneurial skills, business acumen, and ethical standards upon his elevation to the position of Group CEO of Access Holdings Plc.

Speaker Abbas emphasized the immense void left by Dr. Wigwe’s passing in both the banking sector and the broader corporate landscape. He urged the organizations that Dr. Wigwe had passionately served throughout his career to uphold and perpetuate his legacy.

In offering his condolences, Speaker Abbas expressed heartfelt prayers for divine solace upon the grieving families, beseeching God to grant them the strength to cope with this irreplaceable loss. He also invoked prayers for the eternal repose of the departed souls.
