The United Kingdom’s Minister for Business and Trade, Kemi Badenoch, has commenced a three-day visit to Nigeria, aimed at strengthening the partnership between the UK and Nigeria.
As stated by the British High Commission in Nigeria, Minister Badenoch’s visit follows the former Foreign Secretary’s trip to Nigeria in August 2023 and recent discussions on UK-Nigeria Security and Defence. This visit underscores the ongoing efforts of both nations to enhance the trade relationship and identify new investment prospects.
During her stay in Nigeria, Minister Kemi Badenoch, alongside Prime Minister’s Trade Envoy to Nigeria, Helen Grant, will engage in discussions with the Federal Government of Nigeria, State Governors, as well as representatives from British and Nigerian business communities. These deliberations will encompass a range of sectors, including education, infrastructure, and energy projects, with the potential to generate significant employment opportunities.
Minister Badenoch aims to reinforce the UK-Nigeria partnership, address trade and investment barriers, promote bilateral business activities, and facilitate accessibility to the City of London for Nigerian enterprises.
Commenting on the significance of the visit, British High Commissioner to Nigeria, Dr. Richard Montgomery, emphasized Nigeria’s pivotal role as one of the UK’s key partners in Africa. He reiterated the commitment to supporting Nigeria in attracting new investments, leveraging the City of London’s resources, and fostering job creation through collaborative efforts and recent reform initiatives undertaken by the Federal Government of Nigeria and the Central Bank. These reforms, Dr. Montgomery noted, are instrumental in bolstering investor confidence and paving the way for sustainable growth.
