In a somber announcement today, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Abbas Tajudeen, Ph.D, expressed profound sorrow and disbelief at the demise of the first civilian governor of Yobe State, Senator Bukar Abba Ibrahim.
The sad news was confirmed by Governor Mai Mala Buni on Sunday, revealing that the former governor, aged 75, passed away while receiving medical treatment in Saudi Arabia.
Speaker Abbas Tajudeen conveyed his shock, describing Senator Ibrahim’s death as not only painful but also highlighting the significant void it would leave in Yobe State, the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), and the entire nation.
In a statement, Speaker Abbas remarked, “The death of Senator Bukar Abba Ibrahim is shocking and painful. He excelled as the governor of Yobe State and as a member of the Senate. He was an experienced politician – one of the few who have been lucky to serve the country in both the Executive and the Legislature, at the state and federal levels.”
The Speaker extended heartfelt condolences to the grieving family, particularly expressing sympathy to Senator Ibrahim’s wife, Hon. Khadijat Bukar Abba-Ibrahim, a current member of the 10th House of Representatives. He further offered his condolences to the people and government of Yobe State, recognizing the enormity of the loss.
Speaker Abba, in his condolence message, prayed that Allah grant Senator Bukar Abba Ibrahim Jannatul Firdaus, as preparations are made for his burial in Saudi Arabia.
Senator Ibrahim, who served as Governor of Yobe State in the defunct Third Republic from January 1992 to November 1993, later held the position for two consecutive terms in the Fourth Republic, spanning from 1999 to 2007. Subsequently, he represented Yobe East Senatorial District until the 8th Assembly concluded in 2019.
Notably, Hon. Khadijah Bukar Abba-Ibrahim, wife of the late Senator, has been a consistent presence in the House since 2007, representing Damaturu/Gujba/Gulani/Tarmuwa Federal Constituency in Yobe State.
Musa Abdullahi Krishi, the Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Federal Republic of Nigeria, issued the signed statement conveying the Speaker’s heartfelt condolences.
