Amid ongoing political, economic, and social crises across Africa, the School of Politics, Policy, and Governance (SPPG) will host the 2024 Africa Conference from October 3rd to 4th at the Shehu Musa Yar’Adua Centre, Abuja. The event will focus on rethinking governance and leadership across the continent, bringing together policymakers, civil society leaders, and value-driven politicians to explore solutions to Africa’s complex challenges.
Themed “Good Governance in Africa: Leaders and Citizens Driving Systematic Change,” the conference will feature keynote speaker Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings, Member of Parliament for Klottey Korie Constituency, Accra. Other notable speakers include Dr. Obiageli Ezekwesili, founder of SPPG, Adama Gaye, co-convener of Fixpolitics Senegal, and Gift ‘Ostallos’ Siziba, MP-elect from Zimbabwe.
Dr. Ezekwesili emphasized the urgency of courageous leadership, stating, “Africa needs leaders who can reimagine governance and prioritize the interests of citizens over personal gain.” The conference will tackle issues like political leadership, institutional reform, and citizen engagement, while also addressing the confluence of crises affecting the continent, from food insecurity to regional instability and economic disruptions.
The two-day event will include expert panels, breakout sessions, and a Citizens’ Solidarity Walk, symbolizing the commitment to unity and reform. Organizers hope to develop actionable strategies to drive long-term governance improvements across Africa, ensuring leadership that truly serves the people
