Sustained military operations by troops of Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK) have triggered a 213 per cent increase in the number of terrorist fighters and associates surrendering in the North-East Theatre of Operations within one week.
The Theatre Command attributed the development to intensified ground operations, engagements against identified terrorist positions and sustained disruption of terrorist logistics and supply routes aimed at degrading the operational capabilities of insurgent groups and restricting their freedom of movement.
According to the Acting Military Information Officer, Headquarters Joint Task Force (North East), Operation HADIN KAI, Capt. Mohammed Goni, the number of terrorist surrenders recorded during the period rose sharply compared with the preceding week.
He said the increase reflected a growing number of terrorist fighters and associates abandoning violent activities and submitting to established surrender procedures following continued military pressure on their positions and logistics networks.
In a further development, two high-profile terrorist members surrendered to troops with arms, ammunition and other military equipment.
The recovery of the weapons and ammunition, the Theatre Command said, provided further evidence that sustained military pressure was affecting the cohesion, morale and operational sustainability of terrorist elements.
The command said the development also indicated a diminishing capacity among terrorist groups to retain fighters and sustain prolonged operations.
In a related incident, other terrorist members surrendered to troops of 202 Battalion in Bama on August 7, 2026, at New Abaram, following sustained military operations and internal disagreements within the terrorist enclave.
The surrendering terrorists were screened, while mobile phones and other items were recovered before they were handed over for further action in line with established procedures.
The Theatre Command said the increasing frequency of surrenders demonstrated the cumulative impact of its multi-dimensional approach, combining offensive ground operations, precision engagements and systematic disruption of terrorist logistics and supply networks.
By restricting the ability of terrorists to manoeuvre, regroup and replenish their resources, the military said it was progressively undermining their capacity to sustain violent operations.
The command noted that the trend represented more than isolated decisions by individual fighters, describing it as evidence of growing pressure on terrorist capability, cohesion and willingness to continue the fight.
Operation HADIN KAI, it said, would sustain legitimate military pressure against terrorist elements while providing appropriate channels for those willing to surrender.
The ultimate objective, according to the command, is to further degrade terrorist capabilities, restore security and create conditions for lasting peace and stability across the North-East.
The Theatre Command also urged residents to support ongoing military operations by providing timely and credible information to security agencies, while encouraging terrorists and their associates to abandon violence and take advantage of available surrender channels.
