Nigeria meets OPEC quota as july output hits 1.67mbpd

Nigeria sustained its compliance with the Organisation of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) production quota for the third consecutive month, recording combined crude oil and condensate output of 1.67 million barrels per day (mbpd) in July 2026.

Latest data from the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) showed that the country produced an average of 1.505mbpd of crude oil and 0.17mbpd of condensate during the month, exceeding the OPEC quota of 1.5mbpd when combined.

Daily production peaked at 1.78mbpd during the period, while the lowest output stood at 1.57mbpd.

Despite maintaining production above the quota threshold, the figures represented a four per cent decline compared with the previous month.

The NUPRC attributed the month-on-month decline primarily to operational challenges at the Erha and Akpo fields, which affected production volumes during the review period.

The regulator said disruptions at the two fields constrained output and contributed significantly to the reduction in national production.

However, production activities across most other oil-producing assets remained relatively stable, with operators implementing measures to sustain operational efficiency and limit the impact of the disruptions.

The July performance marks another month of improved production compliance for Nigeria, as the country continues efforts to stabilise crude oil output and maximise revenue from its petroleum resources amid persistent operational challenges in the upstream sector.
