Tinubu appoints new service chiefs

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved a major shake-up in the leadership of Nigeria’s Armed Forces as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen the nation’s security architecture.

In the new appointments, General Olufemi Oluyede replaces General Christopher Musa as the Chief of Defence Staff. Major-General W. Shaibu has been named the new Chief of Army Staff, while Air Vice Marshal S.K. Aneke assumes office as Chief of Air Staff. Rear Admiral I. Abbas becomes the new Chief of Naval Staff.

The Chief of Defence Intelligence, Major-General E.A.P. Undiendeye, retains his position.

According to a statement issued by the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Public Communication, Sunday Dare, the President commended the outgoing Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, and other departing Service Chiefs for their patriotic service and committed leadership.

President Tinubu charged the newly appointed military leaders to justify the confidence reposed in them by demonstrating professionalism, vigilance, and unity in the discharge of their duties.

All appointments, the statement noted, take immediate effect.
