President Bola Ahmed Tinubu arrived in Tokyo, Japan, on Tuesday to participate in the Ninth Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD9), scheduled for August 20–22 at Pacifico Yokohama.
In a statement Special Adviser to the President on information and strategy Bayo Onanuga said the President was received at the Presidential Wing of Haneda International Airport by Ambassador Hideo Matsubara, Japan’s envoy for TICAD, Ambassador Yusuf Tuggar, Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, and officials of the Nigerian Embassy. His aircraft touched down at 12:50 a.m. local time.
Launched by the Japanese government and co-hosted by the United Nations, UNDP, African Union Commission, and the World Bank, TICAD is held every three years, alternating between Africa and Japan. Tunisia hosted the last edition in 2022.
This year’s summit, themed “Co-create Innovative Solutions with Africa,” will focus on Africa’s economic transformation, strengthening institutions, attracting private investment, and advancing sustainable development, peace, and stability.
While in Japan, President Tinubu is expected to hold bilateral meetings and engage with Japanese business leaders whose companies are investing in Nigeria.
