President Bola Tinubu has imposed a strict limit on the number of vehicles in official convoys for ministers, ministers of state, and heads of federal agencies, restricting them to a maximum of three vehicles.
This directive was issued today in a statement signed by the President, as part of a broader effort to cut government spending.
The statement, delivered by Mr. Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, emphasized that no additional vehicles will be provided for official movements. This move builds on earlier cost-cutting measures announced in January when President Tinubu reduced his own entourage from 50 to 20 officials on foreign trips, and from 25 to 15 on domestic trips. Similarly, the Vice President’s entourage was scaled down to five officials on foreign trips and 15 on local trips.
In today’s directive, President Tinubu also mandated a reduction in security personnel attached to ministers and heads of agencies. Each official is now limited to a security team comprising four police officers and one Department of State Services (DSS) officer, with no additional security personnel allowed.
The President has further instructed the National Security Adviser to consult with the Military, Paramilitary, and other Security Agencies to establish appropriate reductions in their vehicle and security personnel deployment. Immediate compliance with these new measures is required, highlighting the urgency and seriousness of the directive.
