Tinubu launches RenewHER, reaffirms commitment to maternal healthcare

President Bola Tinubu has restated his administration’s commitment to advancing maternal healthcare, describing it as central to national stability and development.

Speaking at the launch of the Presidential Women’s Health Transformation Initiative, RenewHER, the President—represented by Vice President Kashim Shettima—said: “Maternal health is the heartbeat of every family, the compass of social stability, and the truest index of national welfare.”

He stressed that no nation could claim progress while neglecting the health of women and girls, noting that RenewHER would serve as a collaborative platform for federal agencies, state governments, governors’ spouses, and development partners to drive women’s health priorities nationwide.

The initiative will feature an AI-powered National Women’s Health Digital Hub, offering health information, maternal survival campaigns, adolescent care, and workforce training. It also complements existing programmes such as MAMII, while linking healthcare to economic empowerment through digital wallets, microgrants, and women-led health innovations.

Dr. Adanna Steinacker, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Women’s Health, described RenewHER as a “bold, data-driven, and tech-enabled strategy designed to revolutionize women’s health and economic equity across Nigeria.”

Partners include the Nigerian Governors’ Forum, the Governors’ Spouses Forum, the Federal Ministry of Health, and the Women in Healthcare Network, among others.

President Tinubu assured that his government would continue to champion collective interventions until RenewHER’s promise translates into measurable improvements for Nigerian women.
