President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, on Monday afternoon received the newly appointed Chief of Defence Staff, Service Chiefs, and the Chief of Defence Intelligence at the Presidential Villa, Aso Rock, Abuja.

The closed-door meeting, held shortly after their appointments were officially announced, marked the first formal engagement between the President and the new military leadership. It was aimed at outlining key national security priorities and setting the agenda for a renewed strategic direction within the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

Present at the meeting were the Chief of Defence Staff, the Chief of Army Staff, the Chief of Naval Staff, the Chief of Air Staff, and the Chief of Defence Intelligence. The President, who serves as the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, used the occasion to congratulate the new appointees and charge them to uphold professionalism, discipline, and integrity in the discharge of their duties.

President Tinubu emphasized that the security and stability of Nigeria remain his administration’s top priority, urging the new military heads to work collaboratively and effectively to address the multifaceted security challenges facing the country.

He noted that Nigerians expect visible improvements in the fight against terrorism, banditry, oil theft, and other forms of criminality threatening peace and economic development. “This administration will give you all the necessary support to succeed,” the President was quoted as saying. “But I expect results. The Nigerian people are counting on you to restore peace and strengthen our nation’s unity.”

The meeting also provided an opportunity for the new Service Chiefs to brief the President on the current security situation across the country and to present their immediate plans for improving operational efficiency and inter-agency cooperation.

According to sources within the Presidential Villa, discussions centered on strengthening intelligence-sharing mechanisms, modernizing military infrastructure, improving troop welfare, and adopting innovative strategies to respond to emerging security threats.

President Tinubu reaffirmed his administration’s readiness to support the Armed Forces through adequate funding, training, and welfare incentives, while also insisting on accountability and measurable performance outcomes.

The new Service Chiefs are expected to assume their duties immediately, with the mandate to reposition Nigeria’s defence architecture and restore citizens’ confidence in the nation’s security institutions.
