Troops of 3 Division and Operation SAFE HAVEN (OPSH) have arrested a suspected militia member and recovered arms during a night patrol on 6 July 2025 along the Kafi Abu–Rakwok Road in Gashish District, Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State.
In a statement, Media Information Officer Operation SAFE HAVEN Major Samson Nantip Zhakom said the suspect was apprehended while allegedly lying in ambush, with apparent intent to attack unsuspecting road users. A fabricated AK-47 rifle, one magazine, and 30 rounds of 7.62mm (Special) ammunition were recovered from the individual.
The suspect and the recovered items are currently in military custody for further investigation. Follow-up operations are underway to apprehend other members of the criminal group.
Operation SAFE HAVEN has reiterated its commitment to curbing the proliferation of firearms and restoring peace in the Joint Operations Area. The military also called on the public to provide credible intelligence to support ongoing efforts to secure communities.
