Troops arrest notorious cult leader, recover firearm and ammunition in Plateau

Troops of 3 Division and Operation SAFE HAVEN have arrested a notorious cult leader, Fidelis Adamu, in Plateau State, following intelligence reports of a planned attack on political and community leaders over the ban on illegal mining.

In a statement, Media Information Officer, Operation SAFE HAVEN Major Samson Nantip Zhakom said Adamu, identified as a leader of the cult group Jungle Boys, was apprehended on 20 March 2025 at Angwan Gainyeh in the Sakon-Gyel axis of Jos South Local Government Area (LGA). He is currently in custody and providing useful information, while troops continue to pursue other members of the group.

In a separate operation on 23 March 2025, troops under Operation LAFIYAN JAMA’A responded to reports of criminal activity near the Youth Centre at Sabon Layi in Mangu LGA. The troops engaged the suspects, forcing them to flee. One of the criminals, Nashak Wilson (29), was arrested with an AK-47 rifle loaded with two rounds of 7.62mm (Special) ammunition. Further search operations led to the recovery of 30 rustled cows, which have been returned to their owner.

The arrested suspect, along with the recovered rifle and ammunition, remains in custody for further investigation. Operation SAFE HAVEN remains committed to eliminating criminal activities and maintaining security across the Joint Operations Area.
