Troops of the 6 Brigade, Nigerian Army, under Sector 3 of Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS), have arrested two suspected gunrunners and recovered 444 rounds of ammunition in Taraba State.
Conforming the report, Acting Assistant Director Army Public Relations 6 Brigade Nigerian Army Lieutenant Umar Muhammad, said the suspects were apprehended on March 19, 2026, during a routine stop-and-search operation by troops deployed at the Forward Operating Base in Wukari. The operation took place along the Wukari–Ikyaior Road in Wukari Local Government Area.
The arrested individuals were identified as Wisdom Soomga, 32, from Ukum Local Government Area of Benue State, and Elisha Danladi, 38, a native of Wukari Local Government Area of Taraba State. They were reportedly intercepted while riding a motorcycle.
A search conducted on the suspects led to the recovery of 444 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition. Other items recovered include ₦29,200 in cash, two mobile phones, ATM cards, charms, personal effects, and the motorcycle used for transportation.
Military authorities confirmed that the suspects and recovered items are currently in custody, with investigations ongoing to determine the source and intended use of the ammunition.
The Commander of 6 Brigade Nigerian Army/Sector 3 Operation Whirl Stroke, Brigadier General Chukwuemeka Michael Akaliro, commended the troops for their vigilance and swift response. He noted that their actions align with directives from the Chief of Army Staff to curb criminal activities and enhance security in Taraba State.
Akaliro urged the troops to sustain the momentum in ongoing operations and reaffirmed the Nigerian Army’s commitment to protecting lives and property. He also called on members of the public to support security agencies by providing timely and credible information on suspicious activities.
The commander further reiterated his commitment to maintaining a robust reward and disciplinary system, assuring that personnel who demonstrate professionalism and courage in the line of duty would be duly recognised.
