Troops bust gunrunning syndicate, recover AK-47 in Taraba

Troops of the 6 Brigade Nigerian Army, operating from the Forward Operating Base (FOB) in Wukari, have dismantled a gunrunning syndicate in southern Taraba State, arresting two suspects and recovering an AK-47 rifle with ammunition.

The operation, carried out following credible intelligence, targeted a settlement in Byepi Village along Tsukundi Road in Wukari Local Government Area. During the tactical raid, troops arrested 55-year-old Buba Idi and 29-year-old Isiyaka Yusufa.

Items recovered from the suspects include one AK-47 rifle, one magazine, sixteen rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, a Tecno mobile phone, and a Bajaj motorcycle.

The suspects are currently in custody undergoing preliminary investigation.

Commander of 6 Brigade/Sector 3 Operation Whirl Stroke, Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, praised the troops for their swift action, stating the operation reflects ongoing efforts to curb the spread of illegal arms and strengthen security in Taraba State.

He commended residents for their support and urged continued cooperation through the provision of credible information to aid the fight against criminality.
