Troops foil armed robbery on Abuja–Kaduna highway

Troops of the 1 Division of the Nigerian Army, under Sector 1 of Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have foiled an armed robbery attack along the Abuja–Kaduna Highway, preventing harm to motorists and other road users.

In a statement, Acting Deputy Director Army Public Relations 1 Division Nigerian Army/Sector 1 Operation FANSAN YAMMA Lieut. Col. Shuaib Umar said the incident occurred on Monday, January 6, 2026, when troops on routine patrol received a distress call about an ongoing armed robbery at Nasarawan Doka. The soldiers immediately mobilised to the scene and engaged the criminals, successfully disrupting the attack and neutralising the threat.

During the operation, one suspect, identified as Kabiru Zayyanu, was arrested after sustaining a gunshot wound to the leg. He was promptly evacuated to Doka General Hospital, where he received first aid. Other members of the criminal gang fled the area.

Troops conducted a hot pursuit of the fleeing suspects, but no further contact was made. The Army confirmed that no casualties or abductions were recorded during the operation.

The arrested suspect is expected to be handed over to the appropriate security agency following the conclusion of preliminary investigations.

The Nigerian Army said the general security situation in the area remains calm, with troops maintaining a strong presence to dominate the environment and ensure continued safety along the highway.

Reaffirming its commitment to the protection of lives and property, the Army urged members of the public to remain vigilant and promptly report any suspicious activities to security agencies.
