Troops of Operation Hadin Kai have successfully repelled an attempted infiltration by Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists targeting the Naval Base Lake Chad, located at the Fish Dam area.
The attack, which occurred around 2:00 a.m., aimed to destroy newly acquired swamp buggies provided by the Borno State Government for waterways clearance. The terrorists met stiff resistance from naval personnel, who were swiftly reinforced by troops from Baga. The ensuing firefight lasted over two hours.
According to military sources, the terrorists were decisively repelled, with scores neutralized. Several improvised explosive device (IED) materials were also recovered during the operation.
While a limited breach led to the destruction of an ambulance and two other vehicles, no critical assets were compromised. A number of personnel sustained injuries.
Air force platforms have since commenced follow-up aerial surveillance and engagement missions to pursue fleeing terrorists along the waterways and prevent regrouping.
