The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has strongly condemned the recent mass killings in Benue State, where over 200 people, including children, were reportedly murdered in a series of coordinated attacks. The party described the incident as a tragic reflection of what it termed the failure of the All Progressives Congress (APC)-led Federal Government to secure the nation.
In a statement signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Hon. Debo Ologunagba, the PDP accused President Bola Ahmed Tinubu of displaying indifference and a lack of leadership in the face of worsening insecurity. The party alleged that terrorists and armed groups have continued to overrun communities across the country, emboldened by what it called the President’s “lethargic approach” to security.
“The horrific massacre in Benue is another dark chapter under this unresponsive APC administration. President Tinubu must be held responsible for failing to act decisively as Commander-in-Chief,” the statement said.
The opposition party further claimed that the APC government has been more preoccupied with political ambitions for 2027 than with the constitutional responsibility of safeguarding lives and property. It cited a lack of proactive measures and the administration’s reliance on “lame press statements” as evidence of official detachment from the crisis.
While commending the efforts of the armed forces, the PDP called on President Tinubu to urgently visit the affected communities and take concrete steps to address the violence.
“Our thoughts are with the families of the victims. We urge the security forces not to relent, even as they operate under an administration that has failed to provide clear direction,” the statement added.
