Troops of 3 Division, Joint Task Force Operation ENDURING PEACE (JTF OPEP), have foiled a planned attack by armed bandits in Plateau State, neutralising a suspected criminal and recovering weapons and ammunition.
Confirming the report. Media Information Officer, JTF Operation ENDURING PEACE, Major Samson Nantip Zhakom said the operation, carried out in the early hours of December 25, 2025, followed credible intelligence indicating that armed bandits were mobilising to attack a community in Gwande, Monguna District of Bokkos Local Government Area. Acting swiftly, troops engaged the suspects, forcing them to flee in disarray.
During the ensuing exchange of gunfire, one bandit was neutralised, while others escaped with possible gunshot wounds. Items recovered at the scene included one locally fabricated revolver rifle, one locally fabricated pistol, nine rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, and six cartridges.
Preliminary reports from the community identified the neutralised suspect as a member of a notorious criminal syndicate that has been terrorising Gwande and surrounding areas. In response, troops have intensified follow-up operations to track down and apprehend the fleeing members of the group.
The military said the operation forms part of the decisive phase of the ongoing Operation PEACE SHIELD, aimed at sustaining robust offensive actions across the Joint Operations Area to ensure a peaceful and secure yuletide period.
The 3 Division and JTF OPEP reassured law-abiding residents of Plateau State of their unwavering commitment to the protection of lives and property, while urging the public to continue providing timely and credible information to security agencies.
The statement warned criminal elements operating within the area to desist from all illegal activities or face decisive military action, stressing that troops remain vigilant and prepared to neutralise threats to peace and security.
