Troops of Sector 1, Operation UDO KA, in collaboration with other security agencies, have foiled an attack by suspected members of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra and its armed wing, the Eastern Security Network, during an intelligence-led patrol in Imezi Owa Community.
According to a statement issued by the Headquarters Joint Task Force South East Operation UDO KA, the operation was conducted on May 6, 2026, following intelligence reports and ongoing efforts to track suspected terrorist collaborators within the community.
The military said troops advancing on foot into the area came under attack from a building allegedly used by the suspects as a hideout, resulting in injuries to three security personnel.

Despite the assault, the troops reportedly maintained operational control, repelled the attackers and secured the area, while the injured personnel were evacuated to a military medical facility for treatment.
During the exchange of fire, improvised explosive devices allegedly stored inside the building detonated, triggering a fire outbreak that destroyed the structure.
Security forces subsequently carried out a search operation within the area and reportedly recovered additional improvised explosive devices, locally made hand grenades and a shrine allegedly used for ritual activities.
The military stated that the shrine was dismantled and destroyed to prevent its continued use for criminal operations and to enhance the safety of residents in the community.
One suspected collaborator was also arrested during the operation, while recovered items and the suspect were handed over to the Nigerian Police, Ezeagu Division, for further investigation.

The Joint Task Force reassured residents that ongoing security operations in the South-East are being conducted professionally and with a commitment to protecting lives and property.
The military further urged law-abiding residents of Imezi Owa and surrounding communities to remain calm, avoid harbouring criminal elements and continue cooperating with security agencies.
In the statement signed by Olabisi Olalekan Ayeni, the military warned members and sympathisers of the proscribed IPOB/ESN groups to desist from unlawful activities or face the full weight of the law.
It added that security forces remain committed to restoring peace in the region and dismantling criminal networks operating across the South-East.
