Troops of 27 Task Force Brigade, operating under Sector 2 of Operation HADIN KAI, have foiled an ambush by suspected Boko Haram terrorists along the Buni Gari–Buratai axis in Biu Local Government Area of Borno State.
In a statement, Acting Military Information Officer Headquarters, Joint Task Force (North East), Operation HADIN KAI, Maiduguri Captain Mohammed Goni said the operation, conducted on September 7, 2026, followed an encounter between troops on routine patrol and the terrorists, who attempted to ambush the military convoy.
The troops responded decisively, forcing the terrorists to retreat in disarray. Reinforcements were subsequently deployed to the area, enabling the troops to clear the ambush site and conduct an extensive search of the surrounding terrain.
During the operation, troops uncovered and dismantled several makeshift camps believed to have been used by the terrorists as temporary staging and hideout locations.
Recovered items included a motorcycle, bicycles, a magazine, ammunition and rocket-propelled grenade (RPG) bombs, among other combat-related materials.
The military said there were no casualties among its personnel during the encounter, although some military vehicles sustained damage in the engagement.
Despite the damage, the troops remained operational and successfully completed the mission, further denying the terrorists the opportunity to maintain a foothold along the strategic axis.
The military said the operation demonstrated the determination and fighting spirit of Operation HADIN KAI troops to disrupt terrorist activities, deny insurgents freedom of movement and protect communities across the North-East.
It added that the security situation within the area of responsibility remained calm but unpredictable, as troops continued to conduct aggressive patrols and coordinated operations to safeguard lives and property.
The military urged residents to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious persons, movements and activities to security agencies, stressing that timely information from the public remains crucial to detecting, disrupting and neutralising terrorist threats in the theatre.
