Troops foil terrorist infiltration, arrest logistics suppliers in Borno

The Joint Task Force (North-East), Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK), has recorded major operational gains in its ongoing counterterrorism campaign across the North-East, thwarting a terrorist infiltration attempt, disrupting logistics networks, and arresting suspected collaborators linked to insurgent groups.

The military said the successes were achieved through a combination of offensive operations, intelligence-driven missions, and close collaboration with local security stakeholders, further weakening the operational capacity of terrorist elements in the region.

According to OPHK, troops successfully repelled an attempted terrorist incursion towards the North East Theatre Training School in Buni Yadi, Yobe State, on June 9, 2026.

The terrorists were reportedly sighted advancing towards the military facility at about 9:00 a.m., prompting an immediate response from troops who engaged them with coordinated and precise firepower.

Military authorities disclosed that the operation neutralised the threat and denied the insurgents freedom of movement. A follow-up exploitation of the area led to the recovery of two terrorist corpses and a motorcycle, underscoring the effectiveness of the operation and the failure of the attempted attack.

In separate intelligence-led operations aimed at dismantling terrorist support structures, troops of the 25 Brigade Garrison, working alongside members of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF), arrested two suspected Boko Haram/ISWAP logistics suppliers, identified as Mallam Bako Ibrahim and Abu Aji, along the Sierra 4 axis in Damboa Local Government Area of Borno State.

Similarly, troops of the 162 Amphibious Battalion, in collaboration with the CJTF, apprehended another suspected logistics supplier, Musa Idi, along the Mandaragirau–Sabon Gari road.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects were allegedly involved in supplying logistics and other support materials to terrorists operating within Damboa and its environs.

Items recovered from the suspects included 19 wristwatches, a large mat, a transistor radio, two cartons of agro-allied chemicals, and other materials believed to be intended for insurgent use.

The suspects and recovered items are currently in military custody for further investigation and possible prosecution.

In a related operation, combined troops of Sector 2 and the CJTF arrested a 23-year-old suspect, Adams Shittima, in Damboa town at about 5:58 a.m. on June 9.

Military sources said the suspect was intercepted while attempting to procure farm implements and mosquito nets for terrorist elements.

During preliminary interrogation, Shittima reportedly confessed to providing logistics support and intelligence to insurgents operating within Damboa Local Government Area, exposing aspects of the network of collaborators sustaining terrorist activities in the area.

The military noted that sustained offensives and increasing pressure on terrorist hideouts across the theatre continue to degrade insurgent capabilities and force members of the groups to abandon criminal activities.

Commending the troops for their professionalism, vigilance, and resilience, the Military High Command reiterated its commitment to dismantling terrorist support networks, denying insurgents operational freedom, and safeguarding communities across the North-East.

The command added that the latest operational successes demonstrate Operation HADIN KAI’s determination to restore lasting peace and security while creating conditions for socio-economic recovery in the region.
