Troops of the Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have neutralised terrorists and intercepted a large cache of ammunition in separate operations across Zamfara and Kaduna states.
In a statement Media Information Officer Joint Task Force (North West) Operation FANSAN YAMMA Lieut. Col. Aliyu Danja said the operations, conducted on Wednesday, September 2, 2026, are part of the military’s sustained offensive to dismantle terrorist networks, disrupt arms supplies and restrict the movement of armed groups across the Joint Operations Area.
In Zamfara State, troops of Sector 2, acting on credible intelligence about the movement of terrorists from the Fakai General Area towards Kwanar Jolof and Tashar Dole in Shinkafi and Zurmi Local Government Areas, laid an ambush at Kwanar Jolof.
The troops engaged the terrorists, neutralising several of them while others fled in disarray.
During the subsequent exploitation of the area, troops recovered one rocket-propelled grenade (RPG) launcher, one RPG bomb, an AK-47 rifle, six AK-47 magazines, 106 rounds of ammunition and a motorcycle, among other items.
In a separate operation in Kaduna State, troops of Sector 1 intercepted a vehicle at a snap checkpoint along the Saulawa-Zaria Road.
During the search, one passenger reportedly resisted inspection of his bag and attempted to flee after being ordered to open it. Troops pursued and neutralised the suspect.
A further search of the bag uncovered 793 rounds of ammunition concealed inside gari.
The vehicle and its driver have been taken into military custody for further investigation.
The military said the operations underscore the effectiveness of intelligence-led operations in disrupting terrorist logistics and cutting off the flow of arms and ammunition to criminal elements.
Operation FANSAN YAMMA, it added, remains focused on degrading terrorist networks, denying them freedom of action and restoring lasting peace and security to affected communities across the North-West.
The troops were commended for their resilience and commitment to ongoing counter-terrorism operations in the Joint Operations Area.
